ชัยภูมิ เมืองผู้กล้า พญาแล จังหวัดชัยภูมิ ตั้งอยู่บนสันขอบที่ราบสูงอีสาน ซึ่งมีพื้นที่ติดต่อกับภาคกลางและภาคเหนือ เป็นดินแดนแห่งทุ่งดอกกระเจียวแสนงาม และสายน้ำตกชุ่มฉ่ำยามหน้าฝน เป็นจังหวัดที่มีพื้นที่ป่ามากที่สุดจังหวัดหนึ่งในภาคอีสาน มีเทือกเขาที่สำคัญได้แก่ ภูพังเหย ภูแลนคา ภูพญาฝ่อ อันเป็นต้นกำเนิดแม่น้ำชี ด้านประวัติศาสตร์ ชัยภูมิมีอารยธรรมซ้อนทับกันหลายสมัย ตั้งแต่สมัยทวารวดี สมัยขอม จนถึงอิทธิพลลาวล้านช้าง มีการค้นพบโบราณสถานโบราณวัตถุมากมายในหลายพื้นที่ของจังหวัด ต่อมาปรากฏชื่อเป็นเมืองหน้าด่านในสมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยาในรัชกาลสมเด็จพระนารายณ์มหาราช ภายหลังจึงร้างไป และมาปรากฏชื่ออีกครั้งในสมัยต้นรัตนโกสินทร์ โดยมีชาวเวียงจันทน์เข้ามาสร้างบ้านแปงเมือง มีผู้นำชื่อ แล ซึ่งต่อมาได้รับการแต่งตั้งเป็นเจ้าเมืองคนแรกของชัยภูมิ ชัยภูมิอยู่ห่างจากกรุงเทพฯ ประมาณ 342 กิโลเมตร มีเนื้อที่ประมาณ 12,778 ตารางกิโลเมตร แบ่งการปกครองเป็น 15 อำเภอ 1 กิ่งอำเภอ คือ อำเภอเมืองชัยภูมิ อำเภอบ้านเขว้า อำเภอคอนสวรรค์ อำเภอเกษตรสมบูรณ์ อำเภอหนองบัวแดง อำเภอจัตุรัส อำเภอภูเขียว อำเภอบำเหน็จณรงค์ อำเภอบ้านแท่น อำเภอแก้งคร้อ อำเภอคอนสาร อำเภอเทพสถิต อำเภอหนองบัวระเหว อำเภอภักดีชุมพล อำเภอเนินสง่า และกิ่งอำเภอซับใหญ่

Chaiyaphum is a province in the centre of Thailand. It is well known in tourism terms because it has beautiful flower fields. Chaiyaphum was founded over 2 centuries ago during the early Rattanakosin period by a group of Vientiane people led by Nai Lae. Chaiyaphum is 342 kilometres from Bangkok and has an area of 12,778 square kilometres. It consists of the following districts: Mueang Chaiyaphum, Khon Sawan, Kaeng Khro, Ban Thaen, Phu Khiao, Kaset Sombun, Khon San, Nong Bua Daeng, Ban Khwao, Chaturat, Bamnet Narong, Thep Sathit, Nong Bua Rawe, Phakdi Chumphon, Noen Sanga and Sap Yai.

Candle Festival This festival is held in July. This Buddhist ceremony features a procession and a candle contest with candles as elaborate as those in the Candle Festival in Ubon Ratchathani.

Chao Pho Phraya Lae Festival This festival is held during January 12-20 every year. The festivals highlight is a procession to pay homage to Phraya Lae, an elephant parade, shops selling many products, exhibitions, and a produce contest.

Woven products Items visitors to Chaiyaphum buy include Mat Mi silk, cotton clothes, Khit clothes, Khwan pillows, and other woven products. They can be purchased from shops in the city and in Phu Khiao.
