เมืองตาก เป็นจังหวัดที่อยู่ทางภาคเหนือตอนล่าง มีชื่อเดิมว่า “เมืองระแหง” ในอดีตเป็นเมืองที่มีชาวมอญอาศัยอยู่มาก่อน ดังมีหลักฐานศิลปะมอญปรากฏอยู่ ตัวเมืองเดิมตั้งอยู่ที่อำเภอบ้านตาก เมืองนี้สร้างขึ้นก่อนสมัยกรุงสุโขทัยเป็นราชธานี ต่อมาเมื่อได้สถาปนากรุงสุโขทัยเป็นราชธานีแล้ว เมืองตากมีฐานะเป็นเมืองหน้าด่านที่สำคัญด้านฝั่งตะวันตก และยังเป็นเมืองที่มีความเกี่ยวข้องกับพระมหาราชในอดีตถึง 4 พระองค์ ที่เสด็จมาชุมนุมกองทัพ ณ ดินแดนเมืองตากแห่งนี้ ได้แก่ พ่อขุนรามคำแหงมหาราช สมเด็จพระนเรศวรมหาราช สมเด็จพระนารายณ์มหาราช และสมเด็จพระเจ้าตากสินมหาราช ในสมัยกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์พระบาทสมเด็จพระพุทธเลิศหล้านภาลัยได้โปรดเกล้าฯ ให้ย้ายตัวเมืองตากจากฝั่งขวา ของแม่น้ำปิงมายังฝั่งซ้ายบริเวณตำบลบ้านระแหงจนกระทั่งทุกวันนี้

และป่าไม้ เป็นจังหวัดที่มีอุทยานแห่งชาติหลายแห่งที่ยังคงความสมบูรณ์ของป่า และธรรมชาติ อาทิ อุทยานแห่งชาติตากสินมหาราช อุทยานแห่งชาติแม่เมย อุทยานแห่งชาติลานสาง และอุทยานแห่งชาติน้ำตกพาเจริญ ตลอดจนมีน้ำตกที่ นักท่องเที่ยวรักการผจญภัย และนิยมการล่องแก่งต้องมาเยือนสักครั้ง คือ น้ำตกทีลอซู และน้ำตกทีลอเร นอกจากความสวยงามตามธรรมชาติแล้ว ยังเป็นจังหวัดที่มีผลผลิตทางการเกษตรที่ขึ้นชื่อทั้งดอกไม้ และผลไม้ โดยเฉพาะทับทิม ซึ่งเป็นพันธุ์ ที่มีผลใหญ่ และกำลังได้รับความนิยมมาก
